The Silent Harvest Volume One

Some traditional songs and ballads in their modular, ambient and kosmische variants

We are very excited to share with you the details of our next release, The Silent Harvest Volume One. It’s a very special project to us, and is, in fact, the album we resurrected the label to put out. It’s a compilation of new works by modular, ambient and other electronic artists and is the first volume in what we hope will be an ongoing series.

The Silent Harvest is loosely based on The Long Harvest, an incredible series of ten LPs of traditional folk songs and ballads that Ewan McColl and Peggy Seeger recorded for release by Argo Records between 1967 – 1968. We sent the artists involved the complete set of songs and ballads and asked each of them to choose one as the inspiration for a new piece of music. We didn’t set any parameters for this: how each of them engaged with what they chose was entirely up to them. Some of them interpreted the original ballad quite literally, others used a phrase or a few keywords as a starting point, others extrapolated from the mood or atmosphere conjured up by the words. What made this project a particularly exciting one to coordinate was that we had absolutely no idea what we’d be getting back. The end result far surpassed our expectations.

Featuring new music from Portland Vows, Jo Johnson, The Heartwood Institute, Early Remains, Electric Pentacle, Swansither and Mason Bee, Pulselovers, Veryan, Hawksmoor, Giants of Discovery, worriedaboutsatan, Lines of Silence, Megalithic Transport Network, HDRF, Twilight Sequence and Field Lines Cartographer.
