THE SILENT HARVEST
The Silent Harvest is a series of albums loosely based on The Long Harvest, an incredible set of ten LPs of traditional folk songs and ballads that Ewan McColl and Peggy Seeger recorded for release by Argo Records between 1967 – 1968. With each volume, the artists involved are provided with the complete set of songs and ballads from the 10 album set and asked to choose one as the inspiration for a new piece of music. We don’t set any parameters for this: how each musician engages with the song or ballad they chose is entirely up to them. Some of them may decided to interpret the original piece quite literally, others might want to use a phrase or a few keywords as a starting point, others may extrapolate from the mood or atmosphere conjured up by the words. What makes this project a particularly exciting one to coordinate is that we have absolutely no idea what we’ll be getting back.
Any profits from The Silent Harvest will be donated to wildlife conservation and nature recovery organisations.
